Sync Norwich review
06 Jul 2012 Vaughan and Jo recently attended the inaugural meeting of Sync Norwich- a new and exciting networking group for the tech community in Norwich and Norfolk.
The group’s aim is provide an opportunity for technical-minded individuals, entrepreneurs and new business start-up’s based in the Norwich area to get together and share ideas/experiences. Juliana Meyer opened up the evening, with a brief history of how the group came about from the amalgamation from three smaller groups.
The evening was hosted at the offices of the hospitable Blurtit www.Blurtit.com, a Norwich-based web company that provide an online social question and answer website. Blurtit supplied some much needed refreshments (on a very hot evening!), and Project Manager Kathryn Wright gave an interesting talk about their history and development over the past decade.
Colm McMullan then took to the stage. Colm is Mobile Application developer, who has successfully developed a mobile phone application called Stats Zone.
Colm simply told his story- of how he, an unsatisfied software Developer, took the brave decision to give up his day job and work full-time on what was essentially his hobby- developing a football-based mobile phone application designed at analysing match data from football matches. Colm’s application has become hugely popular and now is backed by national football magazine FourFourTwo. Colm gave a very open and honest account of the reasons why he felt this was something he had to do. He shared some of the trials and tribulations he faced, especially on the business side, which was a steep learning-curve.
Colm’s story is a very motivating tale of how someone with a good idea/product can achieve their goal through hard work, dedication, and most importantly taking the decision to go for it. His experience is a fantastic example for other aspiring entrepreneurs looking to take that first big step into starting-up on their own.
The evening then finished with a drinks session in the local pub, which was kindly funded by Ipswich-based Systems Integrator Smart421 www.smart421.com.
